To recap the previous blog post, Team Finnegan spent the beginning of March, 2018 with daughters Katy and Daria in Costa Rica. Our first stop on the Pacific coast was a boutique hotel, Gaia. From Gaia, we moved to a lovely villa in Tulemar for one night. Daria and Katy enjoyed a sunset dip at the private beach. We all enjoyed watching the monkeys. Gaia has the Scarlet Macaw project. Tulemar has a sloth research project. We really enjoyed a drive with one of the researchers to find a sloth. Success!!!!

Life moving in the very slow lane.

We were told this is a male sloth because of the bare area on his back. The greenish areas on his arm, head and back are the algae that grows on the fur of the sloth. I’ve heard this helps with the sloth’s camouflage in the trees. You will also see in the greenish areas some very small dark spots. These are the moths which live on the sloth and eat the algae.

You can tell that this is a three-toed sloth because it has…..wait for it……three toes. It is my personal opinion and certainly up for a vigorous discussion that three-toed sloths have significantly cuter faces than the two-toed sloths.

Well like the sloth, this blog is moving at a very slow pace. The clue is that almost a year has passed since our last post. Oh well, at least the blog does not have moths eating algae…..maybe. No promises, but it appears that we may have another blog entry coming before too long. I have been working on some pictures of our next stop which was in the mountains of Costa Rica.
