Paraiso Quetzal Lodge is a wonderful place up in the mountains out of San Jose, Costa Rica. Here is link to show the location on a map
Paraiso Quetzal Lodge is high…almost 8700 feet. When we arrived, it was sunny and warm. We walked into our cabin and wondered why our bed had six inches of blankets. When the sun went down, we found out real fast. Brrrrrrrrrrrr. We didn’t care. The Lodge had a cozy fireplace, the food was wonderful and we were having a great time.
Paraiso Quetzal Lodge is known as a place to possibly see the Resplendent Quetzal…..my personal goal bird. People come from all over the world for a chance to see this fabulous bird.
However, there are many other beautiful birds and wildlife to see here. For instance, on the back porch there are hummingbird feeders with several spectacular varieties of hummingbirds to see and to hopefully photograph.
Daughter Daria and I immediately headed out to the back porch with our Sony RX10 IV’s in hand to try our luck. We spent lots of time for three days in a photographic pursuit that at times seemed impossible and nearly drove us to distraction. However, we persevered and gradually got the hang of it. I know I took a staggering number of pictures….thousands, but a few were winners in my book. The challenge is that you quickly go from satisfaction in getting any old shot at the feeder to an obsession in wanting to caption the flash of color.
