It’s Thanksgiving Day. Your family is thousands of miles away. You don’t want to stay home and cook Thanksgiving dinner for two. What do you do? Grab the binoculars, the camera and head to McDonalds in Immokolee City for chicken mcnuggets and french fries……isn’t that sort of like turkey and dressing? From there you drive north to Okaloacoochee State Forest.

Our first exciting sighting of the day was a Limpkin out for a breakfast stroll. The rule for Limkins is they are always in grass that blends with their feathers so you can’t get them against a plain background. Maybe it’s a camouflage strategy.

The Turkey Vulture says, “I have turkey in my name but I’m not on the menu. You might save a little of your turkey for me though.”

Although it is always wonderful to spend time with family, we had a great Thanksgiving with Sandhill Cranes, hawks and vultures.
