In September, 2018, we began the hunt for our next summer hangout. We were looking for something a little cooler than New York City. We wanted a place with access to ocean, mountains and historic little towns to explore.
Our first thought was Boston. Another city, further north and possibily cooler with good public transportation. We took the train to Boston, stepped out on the sidewalk and decided we wanted a change from city life.
Next stop was the car rental agency. We began driving north to find our new summer digs. We soon discovered the Lake Region of New Hampshire, about 90 minutes out of Boston. Not only was the scenery beautiful, but it was a little over an hour to the ocean and about the same up to the White Mountains.
Before making the final decision to settle in the Lake Region of NH, Robert had to see if there was good fishing available. He spent the day with a fishing guide on Squam Lake. Success!!!
Our first concept was to build a log cabin on 5 or more acres. Of course we were spinning dreams of a huge garden, maybe a chicken coop. However, before we went shopping for the riding mower, we discovered a wonderful development in Laconia, NH, right below the town of Meredith. The development, Meridith Bay, included a condominium right across the street from Lake Winnipesaukee. We tossed the log cabin for single level living in a new condo on the first floor. For part timers, it was perfect because all of the landscaping, the maintenance is done for us. PLUS……we have a plot in the community garden. No chickens but there are wonderful farm stands that sell organic eggs.
