We first discovered the amazing attributes of New York City while traveling on our yacht, Grand Fromage. We kept Grand Fromage in Liberty Landing Marina across the Hudson River from Manhattan and regularly took a little ferry from Jersey City to lower Manhattan. After several visits to Liberty Landing, totaling over a month, we felt if the opportunity ever arose, it would be a lot of fun to spend more time in NYC. Our blog has quite a few past entries for those early forays in NYC, which you can find by entering “New York” in the search field to the right.

In 2015, we decided to lease an apartment right next to where that little ferry landed from Jersey City. The original plan was to spend one summer in New York. However, we had so much fun and enjoyed so many adventures that we ended up spending four summers.

We loved our New York apartment. The Solaire was a certified green apartment with a wonderful management team. We lived on the 16th floor with a great view of the Hudson River. We were two blocks from a Whole Foods, six blocks from the subway and close to all sorts of restaurants and things to see and do. Almost every evening we took a stroll on the river. We took in Broadway shows, baseball games. We visited museums.

One of the great aspects of our New York apartment was all of the friends and family who visited, either while we were there or when we were elsewhere.  It was a real treat to share our adventure with others.

Our view of the Hudson River from our NYC apartment. It was always changing and always beautiful. We could even see the Statue of Liberty from our window!!

We were able to watch the America’s Cup racing from either our apartment window or from our building’s deck.

An unusual building near the Brooklyn Bridge

We enjoyed several baseball games. Here we in Yankee Stadium enjoying a winning game. Surprise! Robert made it on the Jumbotron!!! You can see him circled in red.

A couple of random sidewalk signs.

After four wonderful summers in New York, it was time to look for a new summer hangout. In the next blog post we look for our next summer spot.
